Friday, February 28th
South African Wine and Tapas Evening at Indulge Bakery & Bistro-Newport News Kara van Zyl of Riebeek Cellars (South Africa) will be joining us at Indulge Bakery and Bistro for an evening of South African tapas and wines. Riebeek Vineyards are in the heart of the Swartland wine region in South Africa where its warm, dry climate is the ideal condition for producing fine white and red wines. We will pair several of their varietals with Chef Greg’s exceptional plates. Kara van Zyl will educate us on their South African wines and share stories of their beautiful vineyards with us.

Mars 1001 Full Dome Planetarium Show at TCC-Virginia Beach Mars 1001–An international crew of astronauts is about to embark on the first interplanetary journey in history, the first manned mission to the surface of Mars. Reporter Miles O’Brien is reporting live from his Space Headquarters TV Studio in New York while events unfold for the crew on their 1001 day long mission. We will witness firsthand their brave attempts to put human footprints on Mars and return safely to Earth. This journey is made possible by the biggest engineering feat ever and loaded with scientific experiments. The explorers will be extending our knowledge of Mars and will be learning whether or not mankind has a future among the stars. Experience the thrill of the grandest mission of exploration ever undertaken! The total presentation will be approximately 50 minutes long. This event is free and open to the public.
The Ultimate Queen Celebration at the Ferguson Center for the Arts-Newport News Get ready to rock with Marc Martel, the greatest Freddie Mercury voice on the planet. Not only was Martel hand-picked by Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May for their 25-date tribute tour in 2012, he was also chosen to record vocals on the award-winning Queen biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody”! Martel and his band perform dozens of songs that Queen made famous, including “Killer Queen,” “Somebody to Love,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and more.
The Mix Free Artist Social Mixer-Newport News Enjoy this networking event turned game night for artists of every kind, only at Downing-Gross! This popular networking mixer is back! Visual artists, musicians, writers, make-up artists, dancers, crafters and more – Join us for this one-of-a-kind mixer for artists of all types on February 28th. Hops for Hearts at Twisted Knot Brewing Co-Newport News Twisted Knot Brewery Co. will be celebrating ♥️ Heart Month by hosting a fundraising event “HOPS FOR HEARTS”, Feb. 1 thru Feb. 28. This event will benefit Mended Little Hearts of Coastal Virginia and Child Life at CHKD. HOPS FOR HEARTS will feature a special beer release to honor the son of one of the Twisted Knot owners. Twisted Knot will be donating 100% of the profits of Tachy Snuggles and ALL CASH tips throughout February. In addition there will be Celebrity Beertenders and many AMAZING food trucks (see below) who are supporting our fundraising efforts by donating a portion of their profits towards HOPS FOR HEARTS.
